We help the asylum seeker and refugee community in the Larnaca area of Cyprus.
Our vision is to demonstrate God’s love and to see lives transformed among the asylum seeker and refugee communities. We seek to be a place of refuge and refreshment in all areas of life for those seeking refuge in Cyprus.
Tourists flock to the island of Cyprus for the sun and lovely beaches. Asylum seekers however come here for very different reasons: to escape from persecution, war and conflict. Cyprus’ location means asylum applicants come mainly from nearby troubled Muslim countries including Iran, Iraq, Egypt and Palestine.
As in many countries, asylum seekers are left to fend for themselves – they are not allowed to work, there is little legal aid to present their case. Thus, they wait in limbo and in destitution for a decision. There are very few places for them to turn to for help.
Witnessing this need in our communities, several churches began working together as the Oasis Project to step into this gap and shine God’s light of hope onto His people.
“When a foreigner resides among you in your land do not mistreat them. The foreigner among you must be treated as your native born. Love them as yourself.” (Leviticus 19: 33-34)
The Oasis Project is a response by the local churches of Larnaca to the commands of God to care for the foreigner.
We seek to impact the whole person- physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually.
